Clinical Interests

  

Dr. Parker’s clinical focus on sleep-disordered breathing stems from his background and personal interests.  He trained with a number of well-known sleep surgeons during residency, then with several renowned laryngeal and airway surgeons during fellowship years ago. Dr. Parker is an expert in the surgical management of the upper airway, so manages a variety of upper airway disorders that affect breathing. He has close relationships with many sleep specialists and primary care providers throughout the state and region due to his work in snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Dr. Parker is the primary referral source for sleep surgery at Indiana University, and one of the founders of the IU Upper Airway Stimulation program, the first multi-disciplinary program in Indiana offering the Inspire implant.

Academic Interests

Dr. Parkers research endeavors began during his undergraduate training, including translational and clinical research projects that have been presented at national meetings and published in various medical journals. A number of clinical projects are always underway at The Voice Clinic of Indiana, including being a part of an international multi-site study looking at outcomes following upper airway stimulation surgery for sleep apnea (The Adhere Registry). Dr. Parker is a reviewer for several of the more prominent journals in the otolaryngology field, providing critical evaluation of research articles to help determine their academic merit. He has served in a variety of leadership roles through committee work as a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, the International Sleep Surgical Society, and several others related to being a surgical specialist of the throat and airway. He gives regular lectures to a variety of schools and professional societies. Finally, Dr. Parker enjoys his teaching affiliations through IU, where he educates speech pathology students, otolaryngology residents, and sleep medicine fellows. 

More About Dr. Parker

Dr. Parker is originally from Long Beach, CA, but has spent time in much of the country during his life.  He and his wife met during undergraduate training in Chapel Hill, NC and first ventured out together as his wife began her graduate work in physical therapy in Chicago.  As a couple, they have been fortunate to be able to not only pursue their own professional goals, but also to truly enjoy the places their careers have taken them and their wonderful family.  The Parker’s live on the Northside of Indianapolis with their 3 daughters and golden retriever.  They are fortunate to have a wonderful large family in the Indy area and love being a part of the the Central Indiana community.
